This is one of me. A self portrait because i dont like being photographed. It is very rare that i publish photos of myself and the idea of doing a selfie rarely crosses my mind. Photography is my way of discovering the essence of others; I dont consider the act of photographing people a physical act, it is a spiritual act of unity. #selfportrait#autoretrato#noselfies#photographer#unusual#fotografo#oaxaca#oaxacafotografo
Our art is an expression of the love we share and the fruit of this love is growing. Big thank you to my assistants and fellow photographers, @dabeatlo & @fernandomoises for this and many other photos. #inauguration#partner#love#brand

BRUNO, our great protector is really a sweet, kind, gentle giant of a dog. Though he wouldn't hurt a fly, he takes his job seriously, constantly looking for intruders onto our land. He has been skunked 3 times, porcupined twice, has chased away coyotes and hunters and never complained about it. Here he is rushing toward me with love, joy and excitement during our daily walks in our woods. He's almost a super hero, deserving his own soundtrack. @spiro_photographer#BRUNO#bestie#protector#soundtrack#epiclove#bestfriend#dog#mydog#perro#lobo #love #honour #spiro #spirophotographer #spiro_photographer #spirophotography

Artisans, especially the indigenous people, often bring their children to sit or play by the stalls they operate. Often the children will participate in selling the family's goods. I saw this image as I was passing it and had to think twice about it before lifting my camera to take the photo. I want my images to represent these people in the most honest and nonjudgemental way possible. I cannot control what others read into my work but my greatest aspiration is to show the good in people. Emmersed in beauty and joyful celebration of life. I have had little interest in video before but there are some things photography alone cannot express. I found a crafts stand selling these cute dolls, representing the Mixteca regional dress. The way they were lined up and tightly arranged was similar to the way the regional dance of these people is choreographed. #iloveoaxaca#oaxaca#mexico#oaxacamexico#culture#culturalfestival#spirit#soul#euphoria#celebration #dance #dancers. #doll #choreography #music #festival #guelaguetza #guelaguetza2016 #discover #spiro #spiro_photographer #spirophotographer
I was lucky to be given a spot at the foot of the stage at the Guelaguetza, thanks to the cultural office of Oaxaca. We met up with a graphic artist who was carrying a cat mask. "I love your design" said Paco. "Here, it is yours" said the artist. We parted ways with the artist and Paco wore the mask. A child approached: "You don't look like a cat" she said. Her brother stepped up and asked for the mask. Paco gave it up as easily as he took it from the artist. The little boy, now holding the mask, danced in the street with joy. #iloveoaxaca#oaxaca#mexico#oaxacamexico#culture#culturalfestival#spirit#soul#cat#catman #celebration #dance #music #festival #guelaguetza #guelaguetza2016 #discover #spiro #spiro_photographer #spirophotographer

Yesterday, at the Guelaguetza festival. WHAT A SHOW! I was lucky to have witnessed this incredible show from the foot of the stage. It is Guelaguetsa time in Oaxaca, when people from the 8 regions of Oaxaca State come together in celebration of their different customs, costumes, food and music. It is a time of diversity but most importantly, a time of unity and onness through sharing and joyful gathering through celebration. It is midnight when the celebration is coming to a close for the night and most of the street vendors have packed up their arts and crafts after a full day's work. I could hear the haunting, echoing sound of the accordion and young voice reverberate against the stone buildings of the colonial era, as the suspended birds give the scene a sense of surrealism. It is a scene from a movie or a dream or a walking reality in Oaxaca. The place is limitless in discovery and each experience is a testament to its beauty and depth of its soul. Yes, places have spirit. I 💘 Oaxaca. #iloveoaxaca#oaxaca#mexico#oaxacamexico#midnight#spirit#soul#celebration#child#musician #surreal #guelaguetza2016 #discover #spiro #spiro_photographer #spirophotographer
CUILAPAN DE GUERERRO - Oaxaca State Ogee or Pointed arch. The Ogee arch is typically Gothic from the 14th century, though it has its inception in the Pointed Arch, found first in India in the 7th century and then used extensively in Arabic architecture. Many of the arches found in colonial Spanish design in Mexico, bear the lingering traces and influences of previously imported design and Motifs used throughout Spain and the Mediterranean island states; influences that are clearly Arabic imports. #oaxaca#oaxacamexico#mexico#cuilapandeguerrero#church#iglesia#monasterio#monastery#sandiagoapostol#Mixtec #zapotec #Basilica #dominican #monastery #monasterio #prison #carcel #spiro #spiro_photographer #spirophotographer

Cuilapan de Guerrero - Oaxaca State - Ruins of Basilica of Cuilapan. 10km South of Oaxaca City, the town was originally known to the indigenous people as Sahayuca. It was first populated in 1,500BCE and the flourishing community was a formidable 40,000 people of the predominately Zapotec and Mixtec tribes. The Spanish invaders built the Monasterio de Santiago Apostol and Basilica de Cuilapan to house the Dominican missionary order. The Basilica was never finished because the Dominicans failed in their mission and as a result the region declined in population and wealth. In the mid 18th century the Dominicans surrendered the structure to the regular clergy which resulted in further losses of wealth and population. The building was severely neglected by the church and it deteriorated until it was finally divested of its religious function, in the 19th century. Since that time, the complex has served as a school, a prison and an execution site for the famous Vicente Guerrero in 1831. #oaxaca#oaxacamexico#mexico#cuilapandeguerrero#church#iglesia#monasterio#monastery#sandiagoapostol#Mixtec #zapotec #Basilica #dominican #monastery #monasterio #prison #carcel #spiro

ROAD TO PUERTO ANGEL - OAXACA STATE Camioneta ride with school children. Local transport is communal and basic. OAXACA CITY, MEXICO Templo de San Agustin. This magnificent structure was started in 1696 and completed in 1722. It is designed and built in the Retablo style which represents the altar piece as an external facade, complete with levels, niches and sanctuary. Though it isn't evident in the photo, the scale of this church is also impressive. The average height for a man would be similar to the light wood height on the front door. #oaxaca#mexico#oaxacamexico#colour#church#retablo#augustinian#sanagustin#sanagustinchurch#door #texture #composition #city #architecture #graphic #design #shape #spiro #spiro_photographer #spirophotographer

PORTRAIT - FACES OF MEXICO In Mexico, many people shy away from the camera at the markets. This guy was the exception. He caught my attention and motioned for me to take his picture. He wanted to show his tattoo because he stood with his right shoulder facing me. The dragon symbol is one of strength and protection. That he has it on his right shoulder, possibly points to his status as the head of his family, probably the breadwinner. He is younger than the average market vendor, especially the food vendors. One can sense his gentle pride in the photo. This is what makes it special for me. #oaxaca#tlacolula#mexico#mexican#market#dragon#dragontattoo#tattoo#protector#headofthefamily #bw #portrait #oldschool #spiro #spirophotographer #spiro_photographer
PORTRAIT - FACES OF MEXICO Many of the indigenous people of Oaxaca State are reserved in front of a camera. I found this lady selling her crops at the Tlacolula market and after a few friendly words in desperate English, French, Greek and of course my poor Spanish, she allowed me to photograph her for 20 pesos. It is obvious that she's curious about my intentions but she's amused about the process. I wish I had a better camera on this trip and more time to really photograph people the way they deserve to be. #oaxaca#tlacolula#mexico#indigenous#market#bw#portrait#oldschool#spiro#spiro_photographer #spirophotographer
VEGAN FITNESS GODDESS - Fashion portrait I devised this project to reflect Samantha's dedication and steadfast responsibility to her cause of veganism, and how she has adapted this lifestyle choice to her other lifestyle choice: fitness.
